442: Live with Honor, Die with Dignity (film)
A 2010 documentary film directed by Japanese filmmaker Junichiro Suzuki that tells the story of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and other Japanese Americans in the U.S. armed forces during World War II. It is the second film in Suzuki's trilogy of films on the Japanese American World War II experience.
Through interviews and historic and contemporary footage—much of the latter filmed in European sites of key battles—the film describes the heroic actions of the Nisei soldiers who fought in active combat against enemy Germans and Italians in Europe, while struggling with racial prejudice in their home country of the United States. The film features interviews with veterans and their family members, draft resisters, former American concentration camp prisoners, community advocates and historians. The film is narrated by Lane Nishikawa and scored by Kitaro. The film had a brief theatrical run in 2010 and won the Maui Film Festival Audience Special Award and the Tokyo International Film Festival award.
442 is a follow-up to the Japanese director's prior Toyo's Camera , the second in his documentary trilogy on Japanese Americans that was completed when his third film, MIS: Human Secret Weapons , was released in 2012.
