Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet (play)

Theatrical adaptation of the best selling novel by Jamie Ford, first produced by the Book-It Repertory Theatre in Seattle in 2012. The play proved very popular with audiences and was extended twice.

Adapted and directed by Annie Lareau, the director of touring and outreach at Book-It, Hotel was made with the blessing of author Jamie Ford and featured a large, mostly Asian American cast. The play starred Jose Aboag and Stephanie Kim as the young Henry and Keiko and Stan Asis as the older Henry. The play premiered on September 18, 2012.

Reviews of the play were almost uniformly positive, with the young leads and the design and costuming often being singled out for praise. Several reviewers did note that the play, at nearly three hours, was too long and included too many short scenes. [1]

Founded in 1987, the Book-It is a nonprofit theater in Seattle that specializes in adapting both classic and contemporary literary works for the stage. These works are adapted in a "Book-It Style" that retains much of the narrative and dialogue from the books. It has produced over ninety world premiere adaptations of short stories and novels in its history.
