A Tribute to Ruth Asawa (film)

Short documentary film on artist Ruth Asawa by Dianne Fukami. Released shortly after Asawa's death in August 2013, the film incorporates interview footage from Fukami's earlier 2008 film Ruth Asawa: Community Artist .

A Tribute to Ruth Asawa begins with footage of the renovation of the de Young Museum in San Francisco and Asawa's role in the renovation. The film's profile of Asawa is based largely on her own words and explores the various areas in which she made an impact: art education, highlighting her role in developing a program at the Alvarado Elementary School; public art, highlighting a fountain she created at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in San Francisco; fine arts, noting the closed basket forms she became known for; and remembrance of the Japanese American incarceration, with a segment on the bas-relief Japanese American mural she created at a federal courthouse in San Jose.
