Going for Honor, Going for Broke (film)

Short 2006 documentary film that gives an overview of the 100th Infantry Battalion and 442nd Regimental Combat Team . Produced, written, directed, narrated & edited by George Toshio Johnston, he film was funded by a grant from the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program .

Beginning with the 2000 Medal of Honor ceremony and including remarks by President Bill Clinton, Going for Honor introduces the 442nd before covering the mass incarceration of West Coast Japanese Americans, the Varsity Victory Volunteers , and the 100th. From there it covers various achievements of the 442nd, including the rescue of the "Lost Battalion ," the 522nd Field Artillery Battalion 's encounter with Dachau, and the breaking of the Gothic Line, before ending with the legacy of the soldiers, including their impact on the Redress Movement . The story is told through interviews with veterans, excerpts from speeches, and narration augmented by archival photographs and footage.
