\n Narrative film about two Nisei brothers that begins with their visit with their Issei father at\n \n Tule Lake\n \n and follows them to the battlefields of Italy as members of the\n \n 442nd Regimental Combat Team\n \n .\n

\n The film begins as Minoru and John Miyasaki, in their army uniforms, ride the bus to Tule Lake. But when they get there, John refuses to get off, telling Minoru that their father won't want to see them. When Minoru meets him, their father indeed seems embittered and tells Minoru that America is not his country. In Italy, the brothers and small band of soldiers come across an apparently abandoned farm house. As they investigate the house, they encounter enemy fire. As Minoru lies on the ground, he recalls the rest of his conversation with his father at Tule Lake, where he tells Minoru that while not his country, America is Minoru's and John's, and that he is proud of them for fighting for it.\n

\n Darren Haruo Rae based the story on the experiences of his grandfather, Minoru Miyasaki, to whom the film is dedicated. Calling it a \"love letter to my family,\" Rae hopes to expand the story into a feature length film.\n \n \n [1]\n \n \n
