Mounted in 2011 by the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, the exhibition was based on the collection of Mabel Rose Jamison Vogel, an art teacher at Rohwer. Vogel bequeathed the objects to McGehee, Arkansas, Mayor Rosalie Santine Gould, who in turn donated the collection to the Butler Center in 2010.\n  \n   The Art of Living\n  \n  included about 125 pieces, ranging from fashion sketches to bird pins to paintings in a wide variety of styles, augmented by photographs of the camp and interview segments with former Rohwer inmates. The project also includes an online version of the exhibition. Among the public programs tied to the exhibition's run were talks by Delphine Hirasuna, author of\n  \n   The Art of Gaman\n  \n  and by Vivienne Schiffer, daughter of Gould and author of the novel\n  \n\n    Camp Nine\n   \n\n  , which is set in a Rohwer-like concentration camp.","url_title":"The Art of Living: Japanese American Creative Experience at Rohwer (exhibition)","categories":["Chroniclers"],"rg_rgmediatype":["exhibitions"],"rg_interestlevel":["Grades 3-5","Grades 6-8","Grades 9-12","Adult"],"rg_genre":["Art","History"],"rg_theme":["Expression through art","Displacement"],"rg_availability":["Available"],"rg_rgmediatype_label":"Museum Exhibitions","rg_rgmediatype_icon":"fa-university"},{"id":"To the Stars: The Autobiography of George Takei, Star Trek's Mr. Sulu (book)","model":"article","index":"2 2/{'value': 3, 'relation': 'eq'}","links":{"html":"https://resourceguide.densho.org/To%20the%20Stars:%20The%20Autobiography%20of%20George%20Takei,%20Star%20Trek's%20Mr.%20Sulu%20(book)/","json":"https://resourceguide.densho.org/api/3.0/articles/To%20the%20Stars:%20The%20Autobiography%20of%20George%20Takei,%20Star%20Trek's%20Mr.%20Sulu%20(book)/"},"title":"To the Stars: The Autobiography of George Takei, Star Trek's Mr. Sulu (book)","description":"Famous actor and celebrity recounts some of the most important periods of his life, including his early childhood spent at\n  \n   Rohwer\n  \n  and\n  \n   Tule Lake\n  \n  concentration camps.","url_title":"To the Stars: The Autobiography of George Takei, Star Trek's Mr. Sulu (book)","rg_rgmediatype":["books"],"rg_interestlevel":["Grades 9-12","Adult"],"rg_genre":["Memoir"],"rg_theme":["Coming of age","Disillusionment and dreams","Displacement","Family - blessing or curse","Growing up - pain or pleasure","Identity crisis","Importance of community","Love and sacrifice"],"rg_readinglevel":["Adult"],"rg_availability":["Widely available"],"rg_rgmediatype_label":"Books","rg_rgmediatype_icon":"fa-book"}],"query":{"query":{"bool":{"filter":[{"term":{"published_rg":true}},{"term":{"rg_geography":"McGhee, Arkansas"}}]}},"_source":["title","url_title","description","body","categories","coordinates","fulltext","rg_rgmediatype","rg_interestlevel","rg_readinglevel","rg_theme","rg_genre","rg_pov","rg_availability","rg_geography","rg_chronology","rg_hasteachingaids","rg_freewebversion"]},"aggregations":{}}
