Other books in the series tackle topics such as the Civil War, Great Depression, Roaring 20s, and the Vietnam War.\n </p>\n <p>\n The introductory overview and chapter introductions contain a number of errors. The most serious has to do with enemy alien internment. The general introduction states that enemy aliens were interned in one of four camps run by the Department of Justice (page 17), when there were nine such camps, not to mention other camps run by the army. In the introduction to chapter 2, we are again led to believe that only the Justice Department ran these camps (69), even though\n <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"https://encyclopedia.densho.org/wiki/Lordsburg_(detention_facility)\" title=\"Lordsburg (detention facility)\">\n Lordsburg\n </a>\n —a camp run by the army—is mentioned later that same page. Other issues: The introduction to chapter 5 claims that as a result of the\n <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"https://encyclopedia.densho.org/wiki/Ex_parte_Mitsuye_Endo_(1944)\" title=\"Ex parte Mitsuye Endo (1944)\">\n Endo Supreme Court ruling\n </a>\n , Japanese Americans were \"free to go\" (169); though inmates could now return to the West Coast restricted area, they still had to be approved by the WRA before they could leave. In the introduction, it is claimed that most\n <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"https://encyclopedia.densho.org/wiki/Tule_Lake\" title=\"Tule Lake\">\n Tule Lake\n </a>\n inmates were \"deported back to Japan after the war\" (26); this is doubly wrong, since (a) the vast majority of those at Tule Lake remained in the U.S. after the war and (b) the Nisei—American citizens by birth who made up the majority of Tule Lake inmates—could not by definition be \"deported.\" The authors also include the Arkansas camps in a list of those in \"barren desert areas\" (21) and claim that the Tolan Committee was created in February 1942 \"to investigate the threat of enemy alien activity on the West Coast\" (32); it was formed in 1940 and its focus was to investigate defense migration.\n </p>\n <div id=\"authorByline\">\n <b>\n Authored by\n <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"https://encyclopedia.densho.org/wiki/Brian_Niiya\" title=\"Brian Niiya\">\n Brian Niiya\n </a>\n , Densho\n </b>\n </div>\n <div id=\"citationAuthor\" style=\"display:none;\">\n Niiya, Brian\n </div>\n <p>\n Might also like\n <i>\n <a class=\"encyc rg\" href=\"/wiki/The Invisible Thread (book)/\" title=\"The Invisible Thread (book)\">\n The Invisible Thread\n </a>\n </i>\n by Yoshiko Uchida;\n <i>\n <a class=\"encyc rg\" href=\"/wiki/Dear Miss Breed: True Stories of the Japanese American Incarceration During World War II and a Librarian Who Made a Difference (book)/\" title=\"Dear Miss Breed: True Stories of the Japanese American Incarceration During World War II and a Librarian Who Made a Difference (book)\">\n Dear Miss Breed: True Stories of the Japanese American Incarceration During World War II and a Librarian Who Made a Difference\n </a>\n </i>\n by Joanne Oppenheim;\n <i>\n <a class=\"encyc rg\" href=\"/wiki/Weedflower (book)/\" title=\"Weedflower (book)\">\n Weedflower\n </a>\n </i>\n by Cynthia Kadohata\n </p>\n <div id=\"RelatedArticlesDisplay\">\n <div class=\"section\" id=\"Related_Articles\">\n <h2>\n <span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"Related_Articles\">\n Related Articles\n </span>\n </h2>\n <div class=\"section_content\">\n <p class=\"mw-empty-elt\">\n </p>\n <div id=\"RelatedArticlesSectionDisplay\">\n <div class=\"section\" id=\"\">\n <h3>\n <span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"\">\n </span>\n </h3>\n <div class=\"section_content\">\n <p class=\"mw-empty-elt\">\n </p>\n <ul>\n <li>\n <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"https://encyclopedia.densho.org/wiki/Children%27s_and_young_adults%27_books_on_incarceration\" title=\"Children's and young adults' books on incarceration\">\n Children's and young adults' books on incarceration\n </a>\n </li>\n </ul>\n </div>\n </div>\n </div>\n </div>\n </div>\n </div>\n </div>\n </div>\n</div>\n",
